The Common Boxwood is found in Portugal, passing through northern Spain and France, up to in Germany, England, Luxembourg and Switzerland. The tree can grow up to 5 to 6 meters in nature.
The dense and hard wood, light yellow in colour, with a very fine grain, is used a lot in sculpture and tool making. This tree will not have quite the same appearance depending on the quality of the soil, the amount of sunshine and the rainfall. In damp or shaded places, the green leaves will be darker in colour in comparison to dry and sunny locations where the leaves will be lighter, even almost yellow.
