The Chinese Elm is a climate-tolerant native of Taiwan, China, and Korea. In nature, these trees can reach a height of 60-70 feet and may live over 100 years. These seeds produce hardy trees with plenty of offshoots.
The leaves of the Elm are small, a desirable trait for shaping purposes. There are several forms of Chinese Elm with smooth bark and others that rapidly develop thick bark. The tree produces small, leathery, glossy green leaves which last well into winter and, in mild areas, may persist until new growth appears in early spring.
