Carpinus Coreana

Green foliage, turning orange-red in autumn

Suitable for all bonsai styles, except formal upright

Korean Hornbeams are native to Korea can grow to 50 feet in its natural habitat. The tree produces a very hard wood that in ancient times was used in building ships, and is nicknamed “ironwood”.

This tree is prized for its small leaves as well as its fascinating pleated foliage and stunning autumn colour show. The leaves turn yellows, oranges, or reds, and sometimes will even turn two different colours on either side of the vein on the same leaf. Very few species can equal its rich autumn colours. The bark is dark greyish with mahogany hints, smooth but fluted with a muscular look.

  1. Ace seeds – nice plump and ready to germinate. Thanks.

  2. Currently undergoing cold stratification so don’t know whether they’ll germinate yet, but have brought lots of seeds from this company before which have successfully germinated. Great range of seeds.
